RemoteRecord is software that allows you to start and stop recording in Cakewalk Pro Audio from a remote location. Operation is done using a footswitch. This can be quite useful by providing a "hands free" method of controlling the recording process. It allows you to distance yourself from the computer and monitor if your instrument picks up noise, as some guitars do. Of course any recording involving a microphone will benefit from separating the mic from the computer and its noisy fans.

RemoteRecord works with versions 6.x, 7.x, and now 8.x of Cakewalk Pro Audio. RemoteRecord is free. The zip file contains the software and plans to build the footswitch. The footswitch is designed to plug into the joystick port and can be used in conjunction with your MIDI devices. There is also an optional plan to wire up an LED to the footswitch so that you don't have to face the monitor for status.

RemoteRecord got a brief mention in the July 1999 issue of "Sound On Sound" magazine.

Historical Note (August 2011)

This software was written before USB was prevalent, as joysticks were connected to gameports. Cakewalk's recording software is now called Sonar. RemoteRecord was last used by me using Cakewalk Pro Audio 8. I do not know if it works with newer versions of Cakewalk or Sonar.
