Parts and Information
As some of you have found, parts and information on Dellorto carburetors are hard to come by. Some new parts can be had from Racing Beat and Mazdatrix, but their inventory at this point largely consists of air filters and some of the manifold gaskets. Information is also hard to come by, as Racing Beat no longer answers questions about their old system and claims to have thrown out their documentation. It is possible that some of the other independent rotary repair/performance shops may still have parts and/or information available. Here are some other sources for parts and information that I have found.

This company specializes in high performance VWs and VW based cars and dune buggies. They do sell Dellorto parts and rebuild kits for DRLA and DHLA carburetors. The DRLA seems to be the most popular with VWs though. Also they do not have any floats in their rebuild kits and the floats are not available from them.
I have purchased a rebuild kit from this company and they were knowledgeble and friendly. The kit that I received appeared to be correct.
This company, located in the UK, is a Dellorto importer and has been for 30 years. They stock car and motorcycle carburetors and spare parts. They claim to have the largest stock outside of Italy. I have not purchased parts from them but I did contact them. They stated that they have in stock every single part made including the floats. Individuals can order direct from them using Visa or MasterCard, and there is no minimum order. They'll of course ship to the US. Their site does not list any prices so you have to contact them for a quote.
Another company located in the UK. They specialize in carburetors and do sell parts for the DHLA. They also carry fuel pumps/filters, pressure regulators, etc. I have not ordered parts or contacted them myself. I received this address from someone that saw my web site (I knew doing this would come in handy). He stated that he received parts from them very quickly.

This is the best book that I have found so far. It is a practical, hands on description of the Weber DCOE and Dellorto DHLA carburetors. It covers a complete teardown and rebuild, setup and tuning, and problem solving. It is pretty good about keeping the Weber and Dellorto specific information separate. The only thing lacking is some of the theory of operation. You can purchase this book at Amazon.com Author: Des Hammill |

This book covers the Dellorto DRLA, FRD, and DHLA carburetors. Although it is light on information for the DHLA. Since it is written by CB Performance, it is very specific to VW applications which limits its usefulness for rotary tuning. The one area that this book has over the Hammill book, is that it includes a lot of information and diagrams showing the theory of operation. It more clearly describes which parts of the carburetor are in effect at various throttle positions and engine RPMs. You can purchase this book from CB Performance. Author: Bob Tomlinson |
